A brand new year means a brand new series of new music releases to look forward to! As the realization of 2017 sinks in, we took the time to list some of the many new anticipated releases that we are most excited for in the upcoming months!
Charli XCX – (Title TBD, September)
One of pops most exciting and refreshing stars is coming back full force, following her 2014 pop punk album Sucker. Though the PC Music and pop infused album, (with the contributions of Stargate, PC mastermind SOPHIE and Bloodpop), has been said to be finished already, the pop star stated that the yet-to-be-titled album is set for a September release, after being pushed from the initial date in May. "Most of the songs on the album are about partying or about falling in love with someone after partying,” Charli shared with Billboard last October. Charli had given us a taste of her current work with the release of her Vroom Vroom EP last spring, along with the first official single for the album, "After the After Party", an addictive party track featuring Lil Yachty. Until September, the singer had announced she will be releasing a mixtape as well at the end of February, which is much needed to hold us over until the albums anticipated release.
Kali Uchi’s - (Title and Release Date TBD)
The underground yet incredibly talented Kali Uchi’s is ready to release her first full-length debut album sometime in early 2017. Following her EP, Por Vida, which includes the dreamy, woozy "Call Me" and the hypnotic "Speed", the Colombian-American alternative jazz singer has been teasing her new album recently, stating that it will be the best album to be released this year, and we have no doubt whatsoever that it will be.
Nelly Furtado – (The Ride, Mar. 31)
After the release of The Spirit Indestructible back in 2012, Nelly Furtado is returning with The Ride which is set to be released on March 31st. We fell in love with Furtado ever since her 2000 debut, Whoa, Nelly! and still religiously listen to one of her most successful album’s, Loose, to this day. To say that we are excited is a bit of an understatement. We’ll see if Furtado will be able to top some of her biggest hits such as "Promiscuous" and "Maneater" with the upcoming album but until then, the infectious, boozy lead single, "Islands of Me", will hold us over until the album’s release.
Sean Paul - (Title and Release Date TBD)
Reggae dancehall king Sean Paul had never really left us. With his successful collaboration with Sia on "Cheap Thrills" and his 2014 international hit "Bailando" with Enrique Iglesias, The "Get Busy" singer was clearly present in the public, but had not released a full length album since 2013’s Full Frequency. Though the title and release date of the album is unknown, we cannot wait to hear what club-banging dancehall tracks the singer is so naturally able to create and his legendary songs such as "Temperature" and "Like Glue" still sound fresh and explosive to this day.
Sky Ferreira - (Masochism, Release Date TBD)
Alternative Rock-Pop singer Sky Ferreira made her mark in music with the release of her brilliant album Night Time, My Time back in 2013. Since then, had begun the long and rocky road to her second album, Masochism. After a series of pushed released dates and conflicts due to creative control Ferreira had shared, the album is set for a release sometime in 2017. “I refuse to put out something that isn’t honest,” she stated a year ago, and we all know that honesty, and perfection, takes time. What we do know from her Instagram is the list of producers, which includes Mike Dean, Ariel Rechtshaid, Ariel Pink and a list of more impressive collaborators that will ensure that Masochism will no doubt, be well worth the wait.
Lorde - (Title TBD, Spring)
It truly feels like it has been a good decade since Lorde had released her critically acclaimed, masterpiece debut Pure Heroine, and stopped the world with her wildly successful single "Royals". The New Zealand alternative star has been working hard on her sophomore release these past few years and has been teasing us through social media these past few months. Although we do not know the title nor specific release date of the album, the thought that it will be released in the coming months is enough for us to finally relax knowing that it is right around the corner. In the meantime, we will still be stuck on having Pure Heroine on repeat.
Melanie Martinez - (Title and Release Date TBD)
Following the instant success of her debut concept album Crybaby, Melanie Martinez introduced us to the life of a child growing up and all the obstacles and conflicts that come with age. Since then she has been touring the world with her experimental alternative pop songs and hard at work creating music videos for each song on the album, showing us piece by piece the intricate world of the concept character. The singer had mentioned that she is close to being finished with the album which delves deeper into the world of Crybaby and will be out sometime this year.
Drake - (More Life, Early 2017)
Canadian rapper Drake wastes no time giving what his fans so desperately crave. Quickly following last year’s wildly successful release, Views, The “One Dance” rapper has stated that his newly anticipated release More Life will be released sometime in early 2017. Since then the rapper has satisfied the cravings of his fans will a string of single release’s since November including “Sneakin” and the incredibly catchy and quickly successful “Fake Love”.
AFI – (The Blood Album, Jan. 20)
Making their much needed return to music after only putting out one full length release in the 10’s so far, AFI’s The Blood Album will be released on January 20th. So far the band has released a series of singles such as the blood pumping “White Offerings” and “Snow Cats” which takes us back to the infamous power ballads the group has released in the past. The recently released singles are promising previews of the bands highly anticipated return and we can’t wait to hear the album later this month.
